Extinction Rebellion (XR) is a nonviolent social movement addressing the climate and ecological crisis. For that, we need to develop new skills that help us to act and respond consciously, with skills that help lead us into the world we wish to live in.
The word “nonviolence” comes from Sanskrit, “ahimsa,” which means the opposite of harm, or absence of violence. Nonviolent Communication (NVC) provides a model for meeting this key intention while increasing the chance for mutual understanding and effective communication for change. It provides us more choices by giving guidance about how to shift from shaming and blaming (making it about the other) and instead to take ownership by making observations, self-connecting to feelings and needs, and including requests for connection and action.

Participants can expect to learn basic NVC skills, such as:

– How to find personal grounding and calm (via inner dialogue)
– How to differentiate between judgments & their underlying message
– How to differentiate between behaviors & their underlying drivers/intentions
– How to “disarm” and connect via empathic listening skills

FOR BEGINNERS
This workshop is meant for beginners – those who’ve had little or no previous introduction to NVC. As a heads up, there will be two opportunities for you to join a follow-up PRACTICE SESSION, in which you put some basic NVC skills to practice using your real-life situations. LENGTH & LOCATION
This training, which lasts 2 – 2,5 hours with a break midway, takes place online via Zoom. The link is provided via email (please provide yours in the registration form).

LANGUAGE
Introductory online trainings and practice sessions are offered in English. Breakout rooms will be created for duets and this can take place in Dutch.
