De VN hebben 22 mei uitgeroepen tot ‘Internationale Dag van de Biodiversiteit’. Biodiversiteit verwijst naar de mate van variatie in leven op aarde. Momenteel wordt van de 8 miljoen dier- en plantensoorten op aarde, maar liefst één miljoen met uitsterven bedreigd. Zorgelijk is ook, dat het tempo waarmee het uitsterven gepaard gaat, steeds sneller gaat. Aldus een vorig jaar gepubliceerd wetenschappelijk onderzoek (https://ipbes.net/global-assessment) van Ipbes, een aan de Verenigde Naties gelieerde organisatie, waar 145 experts uit 50 landen drie jaar aan werkten. Alleen een fundamentele verandering, wereldwijd en in alle delen van de maatschappij, kan tot een ommekeer leiden. Vanuit XR Utrecht willen we de aandacht vestigen op het belang van biodiversiteit in de stad. Door in navolging van andere Europese steden de wilde planten in de stad zichtbaar te maken met #botanicalchalking . Hiermee willen we de connectie met de natuur herstellen en het bewustzijn over en het het belang van wilde planten en biodiversiteit in en voor de stad vergroten. “Chalk” je (corona-proof) met ons mee?

We verzamelen om 15.00 bij de Stadhuisbrug. En gaan dan in groepjes van maximaal 3 mensen – de 1,5 meter in acht nemend, op pad. Samen fleuren we de straat op door de namen van de stoepplantjes op straat te schrijven. Zijn mensen die je onderweg tegenkomt geïnteresseerd? Ze kunnen meer informatie vinden op de Extinction Rebellion Facebook pagina! Veel veilig krijtplezier! 
Kan je er op vrijdag niet bij zijn of ben je niet in Utrecht? No worries, biodiversiteit is overal, je kan het natuurlijk ook op een totaal andere plek doen. Stuur ons vooral wat je ervan hebt gemaakt!!

Dit kan overigens een leuke activiteit zijn om met je kinderen te doen! Laat ze wat smileys of bloemetjes tekenen terwijl je bezig bent

The UN declared May 22 “International Day of Biodiversity”. Biodiversity refers to the degree of variation in life on Earth. Currently, of the 8 million animal and plant species on Earth, as many as one million are threatened with extinction. It is also worrying that the rate of extinction is accelerating. According to a scientific study (https://ipbes.net/global-assessment) published last year by Ipbes, an organization affiliated with the United Nations, which involved 145 experts from 50 countries for three years. Only fundamental change, worldwide and in all parts of society, can lead to a turnaround. From XR Utrecht we want to draw attention to the importance of biodiversity in the city. By following the example of other European cities to make the wild plants in the city visible with #botanicalchalking. With this action we want to restore the connection with nature and raise awareness about and the importance of wild plants and biodiversity in the city. We meet at 3 pm at the Stadhuisbrug. And then set out in groups of up to 3 people – taking into account the 1.5 meters. Together we brighten up the street by writing the names of the plants you see on the pavement on the street. Are people passing you interested? Will it be a problem for you to join on friday or not being able to be in Utrecht? No worries! Biodiversity is everywhere so just send us your artwork!
