Growth in aviation does not happen by itself, but is driven by airlines. KLM's Flying Blue frequent flying program rewards people who already fly a bizarre amount with extra free flights. The more CO2 someone emits, the more benefit. On october 24th we call on KLM to do what is necessary: stop frequent flyer program Flying Blue!
Despite a summer full of heat records, forest fires and floods, KLM continues to stimulate, reward and normalize extremely polluting behavior with the bizarre frequent flyer program Flying Blue. With this marketing program, KLM promotes excessive flying in the midst of an escalating climate crisis. With KLM's frequent flyer program, you get a higher status if you fly (pollute) more. And the higher your status, the more points you get. In 2023, KLM gave away no less than 409 million euros worth of 'free' flights to people who already fly too much.
We call on our national airline KLM to finally take responsibility and immediately stop the perverse frequent flight promotion.
