New rebels are welcome
Join Extinction Rebellion in this low-risk (LR) action. We've also tried to mobilize concerned local residents for this action. Together with them, we will peacefully tackle the cruise industry in Amsterdam.
A cruise holiday is the most polluting way of going on vacation
The cruise industry causes a wide range of environmental impacts and health problems. This is due to the large amounts of fossil fuels that cruise ships burn for propulsion and electricity. The ships also pollute the water by discharging their sewage and other waste water unfiltered into the sea or ocean.
As a result, cruise ships poison the air, kill marine life on a large scale, and contribute excessively to global warming.
Cruise lines and travel agencies mislead potential travellers with advertisements about sustainable cruising, even though this does not exist. The Dutch Advertising Code Committee (RCC) has labelled this as greenwashing.
We, Extinction Rebellion and residents living near the PTA, therefore no longer want these ships here in Amsterdam.
