New rebels are welcome
XR Guerrilla Fashion has been protesting fast fashion since December 2023. Artist Pet van de Luijtgaarden has been doing so for over a decade. His latest creation will be a mountain of 7,000 red and pink garments in Utrecht's Griftpark. He's invited Guerrilla Fashion to give a speech. We might do a bit more than just give speeches.
Pet van de Luijtgaarden and his art collective demonstrate against overproduction.
Ten years ago, his Circle of Clothing was on display in the prestigious Kröller-Müller Museum. Because research showed that the average woman owns 2,400 different items of clothing during her lifetime, Van de Luijtgaarden thought it'd be interesting to hang a lifetime's worth of clothing on washing lines.
"It was a huge success, both artistically and in terms of participation. A total of 120 participants contributed, from young to old and from those in need of care to renowned fashion designers," Pet reflects on the project. "Moreover, we were ahead of the curve ten years ago by exposing fast fashion."
A mountain of 7,000 red items of clothing will be created in the Griftpark in Utrecht, which will form the background for several speakers, including Guerrilla Fashion.
Of course, we won't just come and give a cute little speech - we are Guerrilla Fashion. With all the bells and whistles, we'll tell everyone within earshot the truth about the fast fashion industry: facts that'll blow your socks off! Even at the drop of a hat, you'll find we always have an ace up our sleeves.
The event is open to the public and free for everyone. So you don't have to register: you can just come along. If you want to join the demonstration, we do ask you to join the Signal group, so that we can coordinate everything properly.
The mountain of clothes will be built from 10am to 3pm. If you want to help out, feel free to join. The Guerrilla Fashion demonstration will start at 3pm.
