Visitor strike Rijksmuseum
Action
Price: Free
New rebels are welcome
Join the visitor strike on March 1 at the Rijksmuseum!
This action is low risk, family friendly and suitable for both experienced and new rebels, including children. What exactly are we going to do? That will remain a secret for a while to maximize the impact.
Join the March 1 visitor strike at the Rijksmuseum!
As people worldwide lose their homes, land and lives due to the climate crisis and human rights violations, influential institutions remain silent. They accept money from corporations driving ecological devastation, making themselves jointly responsible for the disaster unfolding. Floods, heat waves and forest fires are driving terrified people - including countless children - to flee.
And the Rijksmuseum? The Rijksmuseum chooses to take “dirty” money from ING: a bank that pumps 72 million euros a day into oil and gas and pursues policies that violate human rights. This is artwashing: ING uses art to cover up its harmful activities and polish its image. The Rijksmuseum receives an estimated 700,000 euros a year from ING - less than 0.6% of its total income. ING needs the Rijksmuseum to pretend to be green and culturally responsible. But the Rijksmuseum doesn't need ING. So why, in the midst of a climate crisis, do they continue to hold on to this money and silently watch disasters continue to unfold?
But we show: silence is not an option when injustice and destruction continue. That is why we are calling for a visitors' strike on March 1. Because what is a museum without an audience?
The silence in the museum gives the Rijksmuseum a chance to think about what role it wants to play in the climate crisis. Will they stand by passively as ING continues to drive the climate crisis, or will they choose to live and break the sponsorship contract?
What time. We start at the museum opening at 9:00 am. Coming from far away? Then join us at noon. The strike ends at 3:30 pm.
This action is low risk, family friendly and suitable for both experienced and new rebels, including children. What exactly are we going to do? That will remain a secret for a while to maximize the impact.
