We are moving towards irreversible, catastrophic climate change and mass extinction. Instead of 1.5 degrees of warming, we are heading for an increase of 4 degrees according to the climate experts of the United Nations. This has drastic consequences for all life on this planet. Radical change is needed, but politics are failing.

We demand that the government allows citizens to decide on fair climate policy by forming a Citizen’s Assembly. This has proven to be an effective way to create strong policy; citizens from all walks of life decide on policy, with input from experts and unhindered by lobbyists or party politics.

A recent Citizen’s Assembly in France has delivered strong climate policy: France is incorporating combating climate change into its constitution, is creating legislation against ecocide and is investing 15 billion in the green transition. There is no more time to wait, the Netherlands need ambitious climate policy now.

  1. TELL THE TRUTH about the climate and ecological crisis that threatens our existence and communicate the urgency for change.
  2. ACT NOW to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 in a just and fair manner.
  3. LET CITIZENS DECIDE by establishing a Citizen’s Assembly which takes the lead on climate and ecological justice.

Extinction Rebellion is an international movement of people like you and me. The movement was founded in the UK in 2018 and now we’re active in 1050 locations in 62 countries. We’re growing fast. We carry out peaceful, non-violent, disruptive actions to pressure governments into protecting all life on this planet.

Legal demo on September 18th: Come to the first major climate demonstration since the beginning of the corona crisis. From 10 to 11:30 on the Gustav Mahler Square. In the financial heart of the Netherlands we show how large companies are holding back necessary and just climate policies. Blockade on the Zuidas on September 18th: At 11:30 we organize a massive, peaceful, creative and coronaproof blockade of an important road on the Zuidas. On the Museumplein we have an inspiring program for young and old! With music and trainings, games and serious speeches, art and regenerative activities, we show what Extinction Rebellion stands for. Most of the program is on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re new, come and learn about our movement, if you’re already a seasoned rebel, come as well and deepen your knowledge! The thing that makes Extinction Rebellion so exciting and rewarding to be part of is that we don’t “just” turn up on the day of the protest, march down a road and then disappear again. Before, during and after our rebellions, there are 1,001 things that you can do to contribute to the rebellion. This rebellion won’t organise itself, it’s a joint effort. Any skill set is of use: Technician, artist, project manager, mum — you name it! So join your Local Group, or engage in the short term as a volunteer at the September Rebellion:
- As volunteer at the multi-day, legal manifestation with an extensive program, on the Museumplein.
- As volunteer for the rest of the action weekend, from photography and video editing to providing first aid.

Do you have time available weekly, and are you willing to accept some level of responsibility? Then take a coordinating role. Much of this does not require experience, only positive energy and a willingness to learn.

To turn the tide we need everything and everyone. So, can't find anything above? Mail to, and we'll help you on your way!

We need all the help we can get to make the Septemer Rebellion as big and successful as possible. If you want to help out more, check out what you can do:

Running an action as big as this involves a lot of logistics, we need to rent toilets, arrange sleeping spots, buy food and drinks, create art installations and arrange a multitude of other things. Supporting us financially is highly appreciated.
