Every first Monday of the month the Dutch government tests the air alarm system. At the same time, we will sound the climate alarm!
Before the end of this year, Minister Sophie Hermans (Climate and Green Growth) must make a decision on whether or not to drill for gas (= new fossil) under the Wadden Sea near Ternaard. As an advisory and executive body of the government, Energie Beheer Nederland is closely involved in this decision. After previous actions at EBN including blockades, we are taking follow-up steps to increase the pressure: EBN should work harder to stop fossil and - focused on the aforementioned decision to be taken - should speak out against gas drilling near Ternaard. Climate change is already causing the sea level to rise and gas production is causing subsidence: a bad combination with disastrous consequences for the Wadden ecosystem. While research institute TNO estimates that gas can only be extracted for IN TOTAL 2, 3 months.
XR Utrecht/Scientist Rebellion/Stop New Fossil will therefore hold the monthly Utrecht Climate Alarm on December 2 at EBN on Daalsesingel 1 in Utrecht.
