Demonstratie tegen Maastricht Aachen Airport zaterdag 14 oktober
Zaterdag 14 Oktober om 13.00u organiseren Extinction Rebellion en Milieudefensie bij Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) een demonstratie tegen de excessieve klimaatvervuiling, ziekmakende uitstoot en ernstige geluidsoverlast.
MAA heeft geen goed en afdwingbaar klimaatplan, doet te weinig om haar CO2 of stikstofuitstoot te verminderen en faciliteert relatief veel privé vluchten. De concentraties (ultra)fijnstof in de omgeving zijn zeer zorgwekkend en een gevaar voor de gezondheid van omwonenden. Ook de geluidsoverlast, die met pieken excessief is omdat woonkernen nergens in Europa dichter bij een luchthaven liggen dan bij MAA, is ziekmakend.
Verder is MAA een verlieslijdend bedrijf dat al jaren financieel afhankelijk van de provincie, van ons belastinggeld dus. De komende jaren wordt er weer minimaal 100 miljoen belastinggeld uitgegeven aan deze verlieslijdende luchthaven. Verspild geld, want de luchtvracht op MAA is inmiddels dramatisch gedaald. MAA levert Limburg dan ook niets anders op dan overlast; het aantal banen en bedrijven dat van MAA afhankelijk is, is zeer gering, en staat niet in verhouding tot de overlast en de kosten.
Kom ook en spreek je uit voor een gezonde leefomgeving voor de Limburgers en een leefbare planeet in de toekomst. Er is een mooi programma met muziek en een aantal sprekers uit de wetenschap, de gezondheidszorg, de klimaatbeweging, en andere belanghebbenden. Kinderen zijn welkom.

Demonstration against Maastricht Aachen Airport Saturday 14 October
Saturday 14 October at 1pm, Extinction Rebellion and Milieudefensie are organising a demonstration at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) against excessive climate pollution, sickening emissions and severe noise pollution.
MAA has no proper and enforceable climate plan, does too little to reduce its CO2 or nitrogen emissions and facilitates a relatively large number of private flights. The concentrations of (ultra)fine particles in the area are very worrying and a health hazard for local residents. Noise pollution, which peaks at excessive levels because nowhere in Europe are residential areas closer to an airport than MAA, is also sickening.
Furthermore, MAA is a loss-making company that has been financially dependent on the province, i.e. our tax money, for years. In the coming years, at least another 100 million of taxpayers' money will be spent on this loss-making airport. Wasted money, as air freight at MAA has meanwhile dropped dramatically. Consequently, MAA provides Limburg with nothing but inconvenience; the number of jobs and companies dependent on MAA is very small, and is disproportionate to the inconvenience and costs.
Please join us and speak out for a healthy living environment for Limburgers and a liveable planet in the future. There will be a great programme with music and a number of speakers from science, healthcare, the climate movement, and other stakeholders. Children are welcome.
