We act based on certain demands and core principles. If you stand behind these demands and core principles, then XR is the right place for you. Our demands are aimed at the government. Because they need to act to stop the nature and climate crisis. In short, we demand from the government to:

1. Tell the truth about the climate crisis.
2. Do what is necessary to stop the loss of biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Let citizens decide on a fair transition.

Additionally, we want climate justice for all.
This has been adopted by some of our groups as demand 0, but not yet by the entire movement.

In our interactions with eachother we adhere to our core principles:

1. We have a shared vision of change
2. We set our mission on what is necessary
3. We need a regenerative culture
4. We openly challenge ourselves and this toxic system
5. We value reflecting and learning
6. We welcome everyone and every part of everyone
7. We actively mitigate for power
8. We avoid blaming and shaming
9. We are a non-violent network
10. We are based on autonomy and decentralization

We understand that not everybody wants to join actions. Some people can’t or feel that civil disobedience isn’t an option for them.

There are plenty of other ways to get involved with XR. So above all, find your own way in the movement. For example, you can:

• Support the movement nationally in communication, collaboration, legal, IT, or something else.
• Join or help organise meetings and trainings in a local group.
• Talk to like-minded people in an (online) community group.

Are you still unsure if you want to join actions? You can always attend an action training, no strings attached. Here you’ll learn more about using civil disobedience and what the consequences of getting arrested might be. If after the training you do not feel up to it, that’s totally fine.

Signing up is not necessary, but very useful. That way we can give you all the information and guidance you need to get off to a flying start with XR. If you sign up, you’re not committing to anything. We will only use your information to get you in touch with an experienced rebel. They will then help you find your way within the movement. If you’d prefer not to sign up, you can also join in other ways:

• Attend an online introduction training to get to know the movement.
• Attend an introduction near you.

Directly contact a local group in your region.

Joining XR does not immediately put you at risk of being arrested. That only happens if you join an action and use civil disobedience. Whether you want to take this risk is up to you.

Using civil disobedience means that you break the rules during an action or a protest. For example, if you don’t do what the police ask of you. We use civil disobedience because history has shown that this works well to achieve rapid change.

Important: always attend an action training before joining an action. At this training you will learn more about civil disobedience, how to deal with the police, and about the consequences of being arrested.

Privacy is very important to us. Any information you share when you sign up is being stored securely according to GDPR guidelines. You can read more about this in our privacy policy.

Some rebels use an alias within the movement. It’s up to you whether you want to share your real name. The same goes for where you live, what kind of work you do and other personal details.

When you sign up you can use a newly created e-mail address. So, you can be as anonymous as you like at XR.
